Two octogenarians stage a hit on an errant husband. Two angels play I spy as they watch over the city…These ten-minute works appear like street art on a city wall, then morph into an animated video, with an orchestral soundtrack broadcast to wireless headphones, and lyrics appearing as dynamic and crafted subtitles. Our creative hybrid brings together elements of street art, mapped projection and contemporary music and opera to create an innovative and entertaining artistic experience for public spaces, open and available to all without any of the barriers normally associated with an art form that often struggles to reach audiences: contemporary opera. It has proved to be a huge hit and has screened on city walls as part of BAM New Wave Festival (New York), Aldeburgh Festival (UK), Sonica (Glasgow), Nemo Festival (Paris) as well as being nominated for a Total Theatre Innovation Award at the Edinburgh Fringe 18 and led one reviewer to ask, “When was the last time you spent most of an opera laughing with pleasure.”
Our Street Art Opera double bill now travels to 9 venues across Ireland.
